So the rumors are finally put to rest. Yahoo! just acquired Tumblr for a cool $1.1B. That's higher than the acquisition cost of Instagram! It's also the first ever acquisition announced through a GIF.

Many Tumblr users expressed their disappointment fearing that this deal will destroy the popular blogging platform. Yahoo! is known for 'killing' anything it acquires - Geocities and even Flickr were once popular sites but struggled (with Geocities eventually folding) since Yahoo's acquisition.
